An effective earth is the most important part of the electric fence system.

Choose moist ground.  Dry soil will reduce effectiveness of the earth and will likely require additional earth stakes

3,2,1 rule

  • 3 m space between earth stakes
  • 2 m long galvanized earth stakes
  • 1 continuous length of underground cable to connect the earth

Cut-out switches should be place strategically on your farm that allow you to simple switch off sections of your property

Run an underground cable from the top stainless steel terminal on your cut-out switch down your post and underground to the next section of fence.

Then bring the high voltage underground cable in from your existing fence line, form a loop and position it on the bottom stainless steel terminal.

By opening the cut-out switch you open the circuit preventing voltage travelling across the gateway into the fence-line.
