Posing a detrimental effect on brassica yield, weeds need to be controlled from early in the growing season. Corteva™ Agriscience has a range of post-emergence forage brassica herbicides including Milestone™, Korvetto™ and Radiate™.
Milestone is the newest forage brassica herbicide from Corteva Agriscience, replacing T-Max in this crop.
Milestone contains two active ingredients, aminopyralid at 60 grams (g) per litre (L) and clopyralid at 276 g per L. Both are widely used, with no other formulation of this type registered for use in forage brassicas in New Zealand. A double strength formulation, Milestone’s recommended rates are half that of T-Max. The main benefit compared with T-Max is crop safety, which was a focus during the development stage of the product.
While T-Max is effective, it has been known to cup crops and cause a growth check which can look severe in the early stages of establishment. Milestone has proven its strength in this area through multiple crop safety trials conducted by Corteva in forage brassica crops in New Zealand from 2014 to 2021.
Milestone offers a solution for hard-to control weeds in forage brassicas and its broad spectrum includes difficult weeds such as amaranthus, spurrey, water pepper and thistles.
Korvetto™
Korvetto combines Corteva Agriscience’s new active Arylex (Group O3) with clopyralid (Group O4) and provides fast plant back and good control of common weeds such as fathen, nightshades and Californian thistles. This herbicide also controls hard-to-kill weeds like shepherd’s purse and fumitory.
The short plantback means Korvetto is a flexible post-emergence herbicide for brassicas, with a three-month plant back for clover and six months for fodder beet. Plant back periods for maize, cereal, ryegrass and forage brassicas are nil; vegetables and legumes other than clover are six months. Using Korvetto offers farmers greater freedom when planning subsequent crop rotations, particularly for summer crops going back into clover-based pasture in autumn.
Handling benefits include an in-built methylated seed oil adjuvant, removing the need to add a surfactant to the mix. The NeoEC formulation is low odour as it contains no petroleum distillates.
The grazing withhold is 14 days. Korvetto is rainfast one hour after application and compatible with commonly used grass weed herbicides and insecticides.
Radiate™
Radiate is a reliable, low-cost herbicide used to treat and control fathen and nightshade.
All the Corteva Agriscience forage brassica herbicides can be applied via ground or air.
