What started as a clever solution for treating lame cows - a ‘shoe for a hoof’- sparked success for a small New Zealand business and inspired a name known worldwide for practical, innovating ideas designed to solve real problems on-farm: Shoof. Their first product, developed in the early 1980s, set the future tone and direction for the Cambridge-based company.
Now, Shoof supplies farmers around the world with smart solutions to care for their animals. While their offerings have evolved, their approach has not: listening to farmers and constantly improving and refining the tools they need to make caring for their animals easier, safer, and more efficient.
Innovation in calf rearing
Caring for calves is one of the most critical jobs for many farmers. This is an area of focused investment for Shoof. Marking a new chapter in this investment is the acquisition and development of the Trusti range. This collaboration combines farmer feedback with veterinary knowledge to develop tools to make the job simpler, faster, and more comfortable for both calves and farmers.
From colostrum management improvements to more efficient feeding, the Trusti range, like all Shoof products, are an answer to real on-farm needs.
“It starts with a farmer and their needs. Then, we test our solution in paddocks and sheds, and continually refine until it works,” says Shoof National Sales Manager, Karen Good.
“Some of the core products in this range are the Shoof Calf Drencher Trusti Tuber Starter Kit, Shoof Calf Trusti Colostrum Bag, and Shoof Calf Cover Thermoo.”
Calf rearing is one of Shoof’s top priorities.
“We know getting those first days right sets our calves up for life, so it is important to us to give farmers all the tools they need to make calf rearing easier” says Karen.
"We are always looking at what is next. Whether it is refining our current product selection or developing something entirely new, our goal is to help farmers thrive.”

While calf rearing is a growing focus, Shoof’s hoof care heritage runs deep.
“We are not content to sit on our laurels, we constantly work to innovate and improve,” explains Karen.
Introducing hoof care innovations that are easier to use and more effective, ensures herds stay healthy, mobile, and productive at every stage of a cow’s life. The hoof care range includes Hoofmat, Walkease, Hoofers, and Hoof Knives to aid the prevention and treatment of lameness.
