YaraVita Actisil is a liquid formulation for foliar application containing choline-stabilised orthosilicic acid and calcium.
It’s designed to help plants remain vigorous in hostile growing conditions, improving yield and quality.
The elements silicon and calcium play significant structural roles in the strength of cell walls, which has a direct positive effect on the shelf life of harvestable produce.
Glen Baylis, Commercial Manager, Yara New Zealand, explains: “Choline stabilises silicon in the orthosilicic acid form, which is the only bioavailable form of silicon, and allows it to migrate
through the leaf cuticle and epidermis after foliar application. Once absorbed by the plant, silicon supports strong cell walls, enhances root growth, increases water and nutrient uptake by the roots, and enhances plant health and self-defence mechanisms. Choline also helps protect plants against osmotic stress and is itself a structural component of cell membranes.”
The reinforcement of cell walls increases the mechanical resistance of the tissue. This improves the plant’s tolerance to challenging growing conditions such as drought and heat.
The liquid formulation, which comes in one and five litre packs, is easy to measure, pour and mix in the spray tank. Actisil can also be applied by fertigation.
