MaxCare® Electrolyte Premium powder contains dextrose (glucose) as an energy source for calves and has a high Strong Ion Difference (SID) rating. When a scouring calf loses large amounts of sodium and potassium, it can result in metabolic acidosis. The high SID rating of MaxCare Electrolyte Premium helps balance the loss of sodium and potassium as it falls in the recommended range of 60 to 80 mEq/L for a scouring calf. MaxCare® Electrolyte Premium powder also contains an alkalising agent, sodium acetate, to help reverse any metabolic acidosis within the calf. To assist with glucose absorption, this electrolyte contains the amino acid glycine. Glycine, sodium and glucose are all tied together to enhance water uptake and rehydration.
