Ryegrass

ONE50 – Perennial

New Zealand’s largest selling perennial ryegrass, ONE50 is a late heading diploid with a medium leaf and tiller size. Its success is due to ONE50 offering outstanding summer, autumn and winter growth particularly with AR37. In summer, this ryegrass makes great use of irrigation and natural rainfall. Available in AR37, AR1 and LE endophyte varieties and has a high rust tolerance.

Farm type: Sheep, Beef, Dairy and Deer (AR1 deer only)

Traits: High rust tolerance, diploid, later (+20) heading date

Sowing rate: 18 – 20 kg per ha

Asset – Italian

For a persistent Italian ryegrass, Asset is a densely tillered diploid bred from plants surviving their first summer and performing consistently through the second winter. Asset has a high tiller density even when occasionally heavy winter grazed. Asset also has excellent summer quality with very high annual production for a diploid Italian ryegrass.

Farm type: Sheep, Beef, Dairy and Deer (without endophyte deer only)

Traits: High rust tolerance, diploid, mid-season (+14) heading date, also available with AR37 endophyte

Sowing rate: 20 – 25 kg per ha (Undersowing 12 – 15 kg)

Prospect – Perennial

With proven reliable all-year-round production and persistence, Prospect is a new generation perennial# ryegrass bred from late heading north-west Spanish perennial ryegrasses and traditional mid heading perennial ryegrasses. Prospect has dense fine-leaved habit and rust tolerance.

Farm type: Sheep, Beef, Dairy and Deer (AR1 deer only)

Traits: Good rust tolerance, diploid, mid-late (+12) heading date

Sowing rate: 18 – 20 kg per ha

#Prospect has been bred, selected and successfully tested as a perennial and will function as a perennial ryegrass. Due to a small number of tip awns Prospect is certified as Lolium boucheanum.

Mohaka – Hybrid

Suited to two to four year pastures, Mohaka is a broader leaved, well tillered hybrid with high rust tolerance. Bred for early growth and cool season activity over the long rotation tetraploid Ohau, Mohaka is used as a short to medium term pasture for sheep and beef finishing, as a high-performing hybrid ryegrass for dairy platforms and for undersowing and runoffs for silage production.

Farm type: Sheep, Beef and Dairy

Traits: High rust tolerance, tetraploid hybrid, late (+20) heading date, available with AR37 endophyte

Sowing rate: 25 – 30 kg per ha (Undersowing 15 kg)

Base – Perennial

Base perennial ryegrass offers exceptional dry matter production and persistence. As a tetraploid, Base is extremely palatable enhancing animal intakes and pasture utilisation. Base pastures offer low aftermath seed head emergence, maximising summer quality and animal production suitable for sheep, beef and dairy farms.

Farm type: Sheep, Beef, Dairy and Deer (AR1 deer only)

Traits: High yielding, excellent feed quality and stock preference, high tiller density, best suited for rotational grazing

Sowing rate: 22 – 28 kg per ha

Platform – Perennial

Platform is a diploid perennial# ryegrass, with high year-round dry matter production suitable for farming systems including dairy, sheep, beef and dairy. Platform's late heading date combined with a dense fine leaf structure and lower aftermath seed head, produces quality feed to assist with summer animal performance.

Farm type: Sheep, Beef, Dairy and Deer

Traits: Excellent feed quality, high dry matter production, late heading

Sowing rate: 15 – 25 kg per ha

#Platform has been bred, selected and successfully tested as a perennial and will function as a perennial ryegrass. Due to a small number of tip awns Platform is certified as Lolium boucheanum.

Excess – Perennial

Bred for high dry matter production and cool season growth, Excess is a medium leaved diploid suitable for productive but challenging soil types and environments. Use Excess to maximise dairy production with dry matter during summer and autumn or for intensive sheep and beef properties. Excess offers persistence and is mid-season heading.

Farm type: Sheep, Beef, Dairy and Deer (AR1 deer only)

Traits: High dry matter production, diploid, strongly persistent, mid-season heading

Sowing rate: 15 – 25 kg per ha

Rely – Perennial

Rely is versatile handling challenging environments on dairy, sheep and beef farming systems. A diploid perennial ryegrass, Rely tolerates lower fertility and periods of set stocking. Rely is persistent with good rust tolerance and characterised by a fine leaf and dense tillers.

Farm type: Sheep, Beef, Dairy and Deer (AR1 deer only)

Traits: Strongly persistent, diploid, good rust tolerance, fine leaf and dense tillers

Sowing rate: 15 – 25 kg per ha

Winter Star II – Annual

Winter Star II tetraploid annual ryegrass is ideal for silage and hay production offering quick winter feed with improved spring quality. This ryegrass is high yielding with fast establishment giving excellent autumn growth. Use on sheep, beef, dairy and deer farming systems.

Farm type: Sheep, Beef, Dairy and Deer

Traits: Fast establishment, tetraploid, improved spring production

Sowing rate: 25+ kg per ha
